Speaking of Pirates

I know there are a lot of writers out there that hate seeing their books sitting on a Pirate website. They go nuts when they discover their book has been posted unknowingly for everyone to buy. It is funny to think that the site is going to sell that many copies of their eBook to make a significant dent in their overall book sales.

Granted it isn’t nice of the company to help themselves to your book but really? Do you really think they are going to sell the same amount of books as, say Amazon?

Nope – most likely not.

It is like how many of the self-publishers are expecting to sell oodles of book at their local bookstore and they go frantic trying to figure a way to get their book on the shelf. They hold book signings and bring their own copies of their books only to discover, no one shows up. Huh?

Self-publishing is not that easy. It is hard work. It takes even more work to make sure that book of yours is fully edited. It doesn’t matter how many times you pour yourself over that book. There is going to be an elusive typo or error that is going to sneak by each time. This is why you need to spend even more time editing your books.

Marketing – leave that for the pirates to do for you. It is called free advertisement. If your book is that good that the pirates feel they are going to make some money off of your books, then you should feel honored.

Did you know that music sales ranking is now, also being rated by pirated downloads of mp3 files?

That is how they are discovering who the most prominent music artist is out there at the current time.

Back two years ago, or more, I remember when, I think it was Pink or Madonna, who gave away one of their newly released cd’s on Amazon. Talk about popular. They crashed the site. It was down for hours. Now that is a marketing ploy for you. If you give it away, then the pirates will definitely not make any money off of you.

Cheers to marketing and keeping the pirates busy. May the edits always be in your favor J
