It’s been months, no almost a year since I sat down at the keyboard to work on one of my stories.
It feels great to be able to get past the chapter that was blocking the progress. So far, this week I have added nearly 3k words to Insane Desires. My plan is to continue tackling this story and complete the first draft by the end of summer. I don’t plan on getting crazy with word counts. Just working one hour a day on this has added more words than what was written for the entire year.
I will try to post a weekly progress update announcing the weekly word count.
Small word chunks will be written during one hours time. Goal – to perform daily.
Word count goal for this book is set at 50K minimum, but more will be better.
It’s been months since I actually worked on any of my works in progress. I know it is high time that I got my seat back in that chair and give you what you want, another story. But it has to better, much better than the last one.
Chunky Method of Writing
The June edition of RWR featured an article about using a Chunky Method for a Writing Plan. First off, it was a great article, if you haven’t checked it out, and you can get your hands on the issue, read it. It showed me I can get back into a writing habit by doing a little bit of writing at a time.
Allie picked 600 words to base the writing plan around but said you can pick whichever word count suits you best. I will pick 500 words. I think I can do 500 words 4 times a week. It is a small chunk and most likely, once I get up and rolling again, I will tend to write more than that at a sitting. The whole idea is to get the words moving across the page, with discipline.
I have another excuse why I’m not writing as of late. It is called a higher education. I returned to school last month to work on my degree. Now I will have to balance more than just work and writing, I’ve added school work to the mix. It appears that the less time you have to write, the more you want to write.
Yesterday, I finished up with my first two classes, the next ones begin Tuesday. Now is the time to state my goals for writing and get back to that seat with the keyboard.
Here is my goal:
110,000-word count ÷ 500 chunks = 220 chunks if I divide this by 4 times per week, I will be done with the story in 55 weeks plus 3 weeks of no writing = 58 weeks. That is a little over a year. This figure also gives me 3 weeks of no writing.
I already have two works in progress. I will be working mostly on Hunting For Love in the coming month. It is already close to 20K words. That is 90K words to go. Divide that by 500-word chunks, equals 180 chunks left to write at 4 times a week, means I will be done with the story in about 45 weeks.
Now if I were to have an exceptional day of writing – 🙂
The possibilities of completing my goal grow stronger by the day.
